ORIGINAL CREDITS++++++++++++++++++

It was (a bit) surprised when V suddenly sent me a link to download this newly prepared / engineered soundfile of our song in 2010; “We’re Angry” - The People.  Since I start using Apple Logic Pro 9, he’s been a sort of technical teacher who appears only through skype. He intended this to teach me how to mix and master the multi-channel data using Logic Studio applications… (so he doesn’t intend this to release widely.) As I hear this soundfile, I was very surprised at the sound quality, some parts I couldn’t get satisfied with the original 2010 master are fully repaired so nicely. That’s why I immediately mailed him about reissue releases. At this reissue project, all things are done by him. I would like to take this opportunity to thank him and all the people bandmembers. - Kota Suzuki

Chilly Gonzales the musical genius shares his mix done for Annie Mac at BBC Radio 1

My friend Vejay Nair / Neutral Features releases his own mix. mix? well, it’s a sort of compilation at least I guess so, ‘cause it’s actually separated, like my Melting Pot project. Filled with good music, my colleague Lobotomy loves it, for sure. Guess he should post it to mixcloud / mixcrate account. (we can rent him our account! and mastering of course.) Anyway, check it out.

Sabamiso Reissue Project #1 - FREAKY RE-ISSUES.

-ORIGINAL TRACK 2011 REMASTER by Kota Suzuki + Atsushi Degawa

Sabamiso - Freaky (Original Remaster) by 2kaiproductions

Sabamiso - Freaky (Atsushi Degawa Remix) by 2kaiproductions

Sabamiso - Freaky (Pianist Dot Kota Cover) by 2kaiproductions

As a first release from Sabamiso Reissue Project, I produced and remixed “Freaky” which was originally released in 2008. My Name is Atsushi Degawa, I first came up with this re-issue idea, with cooperation from DJ .Kota / Melting Pot.
When we were working on the original project in 2008, it was the time of pinnacle of Electro music,  as a genre at club / dance music industry. Now, electro is separate from genre, and it becomes an concept which has strong power of influence to various club music… even for music in major industry also. At this situation, I created a remix track of “Freaky” which includes many elements of latest dance music.
Ravey lead synth reminds you “Dominator” by Human Resource, beat which was inspired from Dutch house music, guitar synths from rockin’ electro elements, and piano riff was inspired by Swedish house. I never insist this remix track as “a track of post-electro era”, it’s just a piece of my interpretation as a DJ. Please enjoy this project with other versions that we distribute, and I hope you’ll be including the tracks to your DJ-play set-lists.

** Freaky should always be ‘edgy’ - Reissue of Sabamiso “FREAKY” by Kota Suzuki
As a series of 2kai Reissues, today we release “FREAKY” by Sabamiso again.
"Freaky should always be performed and arranged edgy.." this is my personal opinion as one of a contributor for this track. When I was hired by Sabamiso as a director for their concert project "HAKKAISAN!!" in late 2008, they introduced me a mp3 of "We Are Rockstars" by Does It Offend You Yeah. Of course, I did know the track then through Kitsune Maison compilation series, but I haven’t tried that kind of ravey n’ rock music. That wasn’t particularly new, but it sounded fresh and included their statement ‘what’s gonna coming next?’   I could understand when Sabamiso members told me that they wanna create edgy dance music like that tune. We decided creating our interpretation and reply to "We Are Rockstars" …

"Freaky should always be performed and arranged edgy.." this is also a rule. Back in late 2008, remembering several sessions for this track, we did try some strange experiments. Such as using tiny little sampling fragments at break part, or using noises from CDJ and we did even use it as a sound of synth-sampler. Strong compression for every audio track was also challenging for youth deejay members at Sabamiso. Because they didn’t have enough knowledge creating riffs n’ basses, I did create enormous loops of basslines and guitar-riffs. And they picked some for this track. (So, I mean, there’re so much declined riffs at our shelf!) We got together at their booth, and did a final production for this track. That’s how we created it. According to my memory, members played…
  • -Yuri Inoue (CDJ, Electronics)
  • -Lobotomy (Synths, Vocoders, CDJ)
  • -Atsushi Degawa (CDJ, Synths, Voices)
  • -Moreau (Samples)
  • -Me (Synths, Beat Programming)
"Freaky should always be performed and arranged edgy…" this is how we did the first premiere. Very final of 2008, Sabamiso did a short performance for flim, at their university. Later that was released as "HAKKAISAN!!"…  All sabamiso members and me were at the stage. (I joined as support bassist.)  It was truly, a live performance. I haven’t heard anyone tried this kind of thing, as a university club activities by students themselves. Members played…
  • -Lobotomy (Beat Programming)
  • -Yuri Inoue (MacBook)
  • -Moreau (Samples, Turntables)
  • -Atsushi Degawa (Lighting Performance)
  • -Me (Electronic Bass)
"Freaky should always be performed and arranged edgy…" this is what we’re going to show you. At this time, we prepared this reissue. The reissue project consists of…
  • -Remastered version of the original track
  • -Remixed version by Atsushi Degawa
  • -Bonus - Cover version by Pianist Dot Kota (aka DJ .Kota)
These three versions show you the phrase, ‘edgy’… First of all, the remastered version is engineered by me, under the direction by Atsushi Degawa. The version sounds much better than the original, at least we guess so. Comparing with systems we had in 2008, we got some wonderful plug-ins and hardwares, that makes the original remastered version more fresh and solid. Even the arrangement and all audio tracks are still at 2008, final interpretation=mastering is 2011. We tried keeping the original master version, because it should be at 2008. As I said, it was exactly fresh and edgy in 2008. And original should be remained.
Completely new and fresh interpretation in 2011 was produced by Atsushi Degawa, a main director and originator of this re-issue project. It clearly shows the phrase ‘edgy’… He did renovate the track by 2011 ways; ravey atmosphere, beats that remind us Dutch ghetto music, strong n’ heavy dynamics and compressions. It’s apparently, 2011 sound. Atsushi Degawa makes his re-debut by this remix track project. This is not only the re-starting point of the song, but also for him. He has spent over a month to create a final 2ch master for this, never ask anybody helping it, just did it by himself. I can easily imagine that it was a very tough task for him… ‘cause he had to master how to organize and mix sounds into 2ch stereo. He’s brave enough to achieve the best result - the final master turned out very fine, as you hear. It’s so ‘stupid / idiot’ ‘edgy’ ‘loud’ ‘(sound of) furious man’ etc… This is how the song is expressed in 2011.
At last, a bonus is attached. Strange interpretation in 2011 from me, as Pianist Dot Kota. It’s an acoustic interpretation, completely. I never used synths n’ midi, creating this version. Just piano, and a few sound from original track. This is a kind of joke recording. Just for fun. But, I did try my best, not betraying the phrase “Freaky should always be performed and arranged edgy…” I’m not good at playing the piano, as you hear. And the song is too simple, just three chords are used. I reconsidered the relationship of chords and bassline at this time, for this version. My piano was influenced by jazzy style, because my piano teacher was a professional jazz pianist for a gorgeous piano club in Ginza. It was inevitable ignoring the thing.
We hope you all enjoying the versions, and feels edges from them. - Kota Suzuki (DJ .Kota / Pianist .Kota)

Now I’m at “GAP / BiFURCATiON”

  • i’m at ‘gap.’ other word i would use at this situation; ‘bifurcation’ also. a starting over.
  • i’m talking about my status, society i live in, colleagues, employer n’ client, partners, how i get along with friends n’ lovers, and how i think of ‘em.
  • it’s time 2 change, time 2 destroy, time to reconstruct, and ‘time to go’

I decide not using this word. ‘adolescence’

In Japan, we write ‘adolescence’ in Kanji as "青春 Blue Spring" … What’s "blue spring"??? I can never imagine blue landscape in April. (Red or Orange may be better, isn’t it?)

Many people looks back their past.

  • "That time was great, comparing with these days…"
  • "It was the best moment of my life, comparing with…"

just like these. Of course, I admit that I sometimes look back my o’l days. But that never give me bright future. They just gimme some hints n’ tips, and tiny little pleasures for a couple of minutes. We should have a 'bifurcation' at this time. Let’s think about future, instead of past. Then, we may start thinking more carefully about present.

When I was working on "HAPPINESS" album, it was the time me and many Japanese people were depressed by the huge earthquake and nuclear power plant problems. Then I thought I need to make a "bifurcation" to me. Throw my past, and think more about future. How can I get brighter future? I was looking for an answer during the production period.  One answer I reached was, to build a strong local community and rehabilitation of in-person communications. Never rely on computer and media, or some virtual things. I never say

  • "I wanna revolution by using Facebook n’ Twitter!!"

Social media and internet should be as alternate choices. Not for primary choice.

The main topic of my "HAPPINESS" album was to make a "bifurcation" … for the bright future.  We need to start moving, even if you’re alone. You can find your mate, understanding, good partners can’t you? You should express your opinions n’ thoughts at conversation or twitter. (tumblr of course!)  I’ve been discussing this topic at my Japanese website for years, and recently finally published "HAPPINESS" mix, and this website. I need some more mates and partners, because I know I can’t do it alone.

By "HAPPINESS" I tried to find my understanding, mates. I wanted to express and clarify my thoughts. My song "Breathe in the Air" was about my thoughts on nuclear problems. “Situation” is about darker and serious atmosphere I experienced in Tokyo. And "Bifurcation" gives you a chance to have it.  Of course, music is just music, I mean, the album is just a compilation of good music. But if you have a chance, please listen to it carefully, and read my liner-note included to download pack. I don’t want you all to agree on my thoughts. Never stop thinking of future and happiness more. Do not think about your past too much. As Fleetwood Mac once sung…

  • "Don’t Stop, thinking about tomorrow!!"
